Where aerospace thinking meets mechanical timepieces
ENGINEERING
A different approach to watchmaking.
Zero West grew from engineering rather than conventional watchmaking. Decades designing for aerospace, defence and commercial applications continue to influence our approach to proportion, materials, manufacturing and detail.
We don’t work within the conventions of traditional watchmaking. We start with the object we want to create, then bring together the engineering, materials and specialist expertise to make it.
Every Zero West watch is designed as a complete mechanical object, with the case, lugs, dial, hands, crystal, crown, strap and buckle developed as one.

Designed from the outside in.
Strip a wristwatch back to its fundamentals and it is a sealed, shock-resistant housing for a mechanical movement, with a secure means of attaching it to the wrist.
Our design philosophy starts there and builds outward.
Every element of a Zero West watch is developed from a single design mind. Case, lugs, dial, hands, crown, case back, strap, bracelet and buckle are conceived as parts of the same object. This creates a coherence and purity of thought that is difficult to achieve when individual components are designed independently.
The result is a watch where the engineering and the design are inseparable.

The Zero West case.
At the heart of every Zero West watch is our distinctive separation of case and lugs.
The cylindrical case and independently manufactured lugs give us greater freedom over geometry, materials and finishes — an architecture developed from Mk1 through to today’s Mk2 design.
Precision five-axis machining from billet, using an aerospace-orientated supplier base, allows us to engineer the case around the material rather than the manufacturing process.
Adapted across 40–44mm case sizes, the architecture remains unmistakably Zero West.
Materials and manufacturing.
Modern design tools meet traditional engineering skills.
CAD, precision machining and rapid prototyping allow us to refine every detail before production. Aerospace-grade metals, sapphire crystal and specialist sealing systems then turn those designs into robust, high-performance watches.
Inside, custom movement mounts draw on high-shock military engineering principles, while our sealing technology delivers 10ATM water resistance without unnecessary bulk.
At the heart of every watch is a proven Swiss mechanical movement — selected for reliability and performance, then engineered into something distinctly Zero West.

Dial, hands and purposeful design.
Dials and hands are designed in-house, with every detail considered as part of a single system.
Inspired by aircraft instruments, cockpit markings, engineering gauges and historic graphics, we interpret these references into something contemporary and distinctly Zero West.
Our development workshop allows us to prototype and manufacture specialist dials in-house, giving us control over the details that define each watch.
Selected watches incorporate genuine historic materials, reclaimed and engineered into the watch itself — creating a tangible connection with the aircraft, machine or event behind it.
The history isn’t simply printed on the dial. It becomes part of the watch.
Beyond the watch head.
The same thinking continues beyond the watch head.
Leather straps, integrated rubber straps, solid-link steel bracelets and deployment buckles are designed as integral components of the watch rather than accessories selected afterwards.
Proportion, materials, finish and the way each component interacts with the case are considered from the beginning.
We’ve also developed our own deployment systems for steel, rubber and leather applications, because how a watch attaches to the wrist is fundamental to how it looks, feels and performs.

One idea, engineered completely.
We don’t design a watch and then ask how to manufacture it. We engineer the complete object from the outset, bringing together materials, technology and specialist manufacturing to realise the idea.
Designed, manufactured and hand-assembled in limited numbers, every Zero West watch combines original design, serious engineering and Swiss mechanical horology.
Every watch starts with one idea. Everything that follows is engineering that idea into reality.
