DESIGN STUDIO

From concept to creation

From concept to creation

The Zero West design studio occupies The Old Boathouse in Emsworth on England’s south coast. It is an appropriate home for a company shaped by engineering and history: a working environment rather than a conventional showroom, surrounded by the objects, drawings and machinery that influence us.

The studio brings design, development and watches together. New concepts begin here as sketches and CAD models, surrounded by reference material, historic components, instruments and previous Zero West projects. Ideas can be discussed, modelled, prototyped and physically evaluated within the same environment.

Alongside the studio is the practical capability behind Z-Branch. This is where specialist dials and components can be produced, historical materials prepared and new processes tested. Having development close to design fundamentally changes what is possible for a small independent watch company.

The Boathouse also holds something increasingly valuable: our own history. More than a decade of prototypes, experiments, components and completed projects documents how Zero West has evolved, creating an archive from which new ideas frequently emerge and earlier concepts can be reconsidered.

Although our physical home is in England, our studio window is digital. Customers discover Zero West from across the world, explore the stories behind individual watches online and deal directly with the people responsible for designing and making them.

That direct relationship is important. Zero West was never intended to become a conventional retail watch brand. The studio, workshop and online platform allow us to remain independent, keep development close to manufacture and continue producing unusual watches for collectors wherever they happen to be.
