The 5th March 1936 was the first flight of R J Mitchell’s Supermarine Spitfire. Exactly 6 years later in 1942, one of Mitchell’s iconic fighter planes was being flown by Flight Lieutenant Sandy Gunn. It was unarmed…

Gunn’s Spitfire AA810 was part of the Photo Reconnaissance Unit (PRU) and, on this day in history, was tasked with finding and photographing the pride of Germany’s naval fleet – the Tirpitz.

Shot down on this dangerous mission by two Messerschmitt Bf109s, little did he know that this event would lead him to a place in a tunnel named Harry and legendary status in one of the greatest stories of WW2.

To honour this story and the bravery of the PRU, our new Spitfire Escape Watches feature plates cast out of rare material from AA810. Distinctive and integral to the watch case design they are unique and limited to 100 serial numbers per watch.

BRITISH ENGINEERING… The Battle of Britain of 1940 had been bravely won but it had taken its toll. The RAF’s heroic pilots were exhausted and Britain’s historic cities had suffered heavily from the continuous Nazi bombing missions. By 1942 the time had finally arrived to take the fight to Germany. What was needed? A tough warbird that could carry hefty munitions; reliably travel the cross-channel distance; out-manoeuvre flak and shake off the occasional hit; but most of all it needed to be made of British ingenuity and grit.

The FS-2 Flying Scotsman commemorates 100 years of

The FS-2 Flying Scotsman commemorates 100 years of this iconic locomotive. This beautiful timepiece is made with Flying Scotsman metal a project that was only made possible with our collaboration through the National Railway Museum part of the Science Museum Group who approached us last year.

Flying Scotsman is the most famous steam locomotive in the world and the first to haul the regular scheduled, non-stop service from Kings Cross London to Edinburgh and also the first to achieve an authenticated 100mph. A legendary symbol of design and engineering it’s a locomotive that evokes nostalgia for the romance of a bygone era of steam travel.

The FS-2 pays tribute to this through our 41mm watch case design that follows the successful house style of our 44mm range.
